Elimhan N. Mahmudov after graduating the secondary school with a gold medal for being the most successful student, he attended Azerbaijan State University as part of the Mechanical-Mathematical Department. From 1973 to 1977, he was a PhD student at the V.M.Glushkov Institute of Cybernetics of NAS of Ukraine advised by Prof. B.N. Pshenichnyi – Academician, one of the most prominent authorities in the fields of theory of extremal problems, numerical methods, and game theory. E.N. Mahmudov defended his thesis in Ukraine in 1980. On the recommendation of the Physical-Mathematical Doctoral Committee of the Taras Shevchenko’s Kiev State University, in 1992 he became a Doctor of Physical-Mathematical Sciences. In 1992, he received a Grant Support for Mathematics by National Science Foundation in Washington, DC, and became a member of the American Mathematical Society.

Prof. E.N.Mahmudov has devoted numerous research papers to Convex Analysis, Approximation Theory, Optimal Control Theory, Dual Problems, and Mathematical Economy, which have been published in high-level Science Citation Index (SCI) journals in the former Soviet Union, the United States, and Europe; ”Optimization”, “Journal of Mathematical Analysis and Applications”, “Journal of Global Optimization”, “Nonlinear Analysis & Theory Methods and Applications”, ”Journal of Dynamical and Control Systems”, “Advances in Difference Equations”, ”Automat Remote Control”, “Doklady SSSR”, “Siberian Mathematical Journal”, “Differential Equations”, “Optimization Letters”, “Nonlinear Differential Equations and Applications”, “Applicable Analysis”, “Numerical Functional Analysis and Optimization”, “Pacific Journal of Optimization”, “Journal of Convex Analysis”, “Journal of Optimization Theory and Applications”, “Journal of Nonlinear and Convex Analysis” “FILOMAT”, “Journal of Industrial and Management Optimization”, “Evolution Equations and Control Theory” (EECT). He has devoted the majority of his time to textbooks and monographs entitled “Mathematical Analysis and its Applications” (Papatya, 2002), “Approximation and Optimization of Discrete and Differential Inclusions”, (Elsevier, USA, 2011), (this book is dedicated to the memory of Khojali massacre’s martyrs) “Single Variable Differential and Integral Calculus” (Springer, France, 2013), “Optimization of Ordinary Differential Inclusions and Duality”, (Academic Press, Germany, 2013). He has lectured on the problems of Optimal Control at International Conferences in England, France, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Poland, Russia, and Turkey, and at the World Mathematical Banach Center in Warsaw, Poland. He is a member of the editorial board of six international journals.

Prof. E.N.Mahmudov currently teaches Nonlinear Programming, Game Theory, and Applications in Economics, Nonlinear Optimization, Numerical Analysis, Variational Calculus, Introduction to Optimal Control Theory at Istanbul Technical University. He enjoys playing chess, playing Saz, Azerbaijan folk instrument, and is an avid painter.
