Welcome to the Elian's IB DP site!
Elians British school of la Nucia is an authorised school to offer the IB Diploma. This school is officially an IB World School. These are schools that share a common philosophy—a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that Elians believes is important for our students.
Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme, or the Career-related Programme (CP).
My name is Jorge Sevilla, the Elian's IB Diploma coordinator. I have created this site to share information and resources to help our students and families get to know and understand the IB Diploma Programme.

EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY OF THE INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE
The IB places great emphasis on encouraging students from all over the world to “adopt an active attitude of learning throughout their lives, to be compassionate and to understand that other people, with their differences, may also be right.”
More than 50 years ago British teacher Alec Peterson — the first International Baccalaureate General Director and mastermind behind the design of its curriculum — cited one of the main ideas of the programme when he referred to the objectives in terms of student outcomes: “critical analysis and learning to learn, instead of accumulating encyclopaedic knowledge and memorising.”
At Elian's we want to give our pupils the opportunity to grow as students and individuals. We want them to become active members of their societies, giving them the tools, the knowledge and the values to work, live and learn in this global community.

IB PROGRAMMES AIM TO HELP STUDENTS EXPLORE AND CONSTRUCT THEIR OWN PERSONAL AND CULTURAL IDENTITIES.
WE, AS TEACHERS, WILL:
Put our learners at the centre of everything we do
Work within global contexts, helping students understand different languages and cultures
Explore significant content, developing disciplinary and interdisciplinary understanding that meets rigorous international standards.
Support students as they develop the approaches to learning they need (skills, knowledge and understanding) for academic and personal success.
