Extreme Lasers and Exotic Plasmas Lab

저희 연구실은  Extreme Laser Plasma Photonics & Lab Astrophysics (xLAPPLAS LAB) 그룹의 일원으로 극한의 고출력 레이저와 플라즈마 간 상호작용에 대한 다양한 연구와 응용 분야 개발을 진행 중입니다. 

주요 연구 분야: 

1. 고출력 레이저를 이용한 실험 천체 물리 (Lab Astrophysics) 연구:  

• 초강력 레이저와 플라즈마 간 상호작용을 통해 지구에서는 존재할 수 없는 우주의 극한 환경, 예를 들어 블랙홀 주변에서 발생할 수 있는 극한 현상을 실험적으로 구현하는 연구

2. 레이저-플라즈마 차세대 가속기에서 안정적인 전자빔 생성 및 극초단 엑스선 광원 개발 연구

3. Zeta Watt 급 레이저 개발을 위한 플라즈마 기반 광학 연구:  Plasma laser compressor 

5. 레이저-플라즈마 상호작용을 이용한 THz 광원 연구

5. 엑스선 자유전자레이저 모드 개발 및 소형화 연구

저희 연구실은 초강력 레이저를 활용하여 소형 전자가속기 및 다양한 광원을 개발하여 반도체부터 의료에 이르는 첨단 산업 기술 연구를 진행하는 한편, 우주의 극한 상태에 대한 기초 연구도 함께 수행하고 있습니다. 빠른 시일내에 실험실에 고출력 레이저를 구축할 예정이며, 국내의 PW급 고출력 레이저 센터인 IBS (GIST) 뿐만 아니라 해외의 초강력레이저 센터인 ELI 레이저 센터 및 국내 거대 과학 시설인 포항가속기 연구소와 긴밀한 협력 하에 공동 연구를 추진하여 이 분야에서 선도적인 역할을 하고자 합니다.

Our lab is integrated into a collaborate research group led by Prof. M. Hur and Prof. I. Nam in the Department of Physcis at UNIST. (xLAPPLAS LAB)

Our lab is interested in broad research areas, including laser-plasma accelerators, X-ray free-electron lasers, and extreme plasma studies related to experimental laboratory astrophysics, focusing on interactions with ultra-intense lasers or energetic particle beams.

Our research focuses on creating high-energy electron beams through laser-plasma acceleration and using these beams to generate X-rays. We aim to produce more stable, high-quality beams using our unique approaches, with the potential for application in various fields such as compact accelerators, X-ray FELs, and the next generation of EUV light sources with electron beams and undulators.

Our work has broad applications in any area that utilizes ultraintense laser-plasma interactions. We can replicate some of the universe’s most extreme phenomena inside the lab. If you’re curious about observing phenomena similar to those near a black hole in the lab or want to explore these experiments in depth, we’d be thrilled to have you with us.
