Elena Axinn

Hi! I am a PhD student in Applied and Interdisciplinary Mathematics at the University of Michigan, where I also earned my MS in AIM (2026). I completed my BS in Mathematics at Tufts University in 2024. My research focuses on optimization, inverse problems, and algorithm design with applications to complex systems in biology. Currently, I work with Dr. Victoria Booth and Dr. Denise Kirschner developing parameter inference pipelines in PyTorch for noisy ODE models of polyphasic rodent sleep dynamics.

Outside of math, I take care of ~50 houseplants, love movies, and am occasionally recognized by staff at Frita Batidos. I enjoy being outdoors and staying active. I also follow rap music (Kendrick Lamar, Tyler the Creator, etc) and the WNBA closely.
