Hello! My name is Addisyn Sherrell and I am absolutely thrilled and deeply honored to return home and join the Cherokee Language & Culture Team here at Colcord Public Schools!

This community holds a very special place in my heart because I am a proud Colcord graduate. My journey with our heritage actually began right here in these classrooms, where I went through the Cherokee language and culture program myself as a student. Having sat where our students are sitting today, I know firsthand just how impactful, meaningful, and transformative this program truly is. It shaped who I am, and it gave me a profound appreciation for our people and our traditions.

Currently, I am completing my senior year at Northeastern State University. My time at NSU has only deepened my passion for education and cultural preservation, and I cannot wait to bring everything I’ve learned back to the Hornets community. My primary goal is to give back to the very program that gave so much to me by making the Cherokee language and culture fun, interactive, and deeply engaging for the next generation. I want our students to look forward to coming to class every day, eager to explore and connect with their heritage through exciting, hands-on learning.

Diving into the Cherokee language is a beautiful and rewarding challenge, and it is so closely tied to our identity. For me, this role is more than just a job; it is a powerful responsibility to help keep our traditions alive, honor our roots, and foster a lifelong love and respect for our culture within our students. I feel incredibly blessed to work alongside such an amazing team of educators who see the immense value in helping our students grow uniquely beyond regular school subjects.
