“Books are the plane, and the train, and the road. They are the destination and the journey. They are home.” -Anna Quindlen
A book is the best gift you can ever give to the people you love. Few books entertain us with content related to different flavours of life like humour, suspense, fiction, etc., and a few others give thought provoking messages. Books are also a novel way of reaching the society and influencing it with our thoughts and opinions on different aspects of life. This side of the coin is of prime importance, particularly to the students. This very idea is what inspired our seniors to establish our department’s very own magazine-Electrozoom.
The plan for an exclusive magazine from the department of Electronics and Communications Engineering was first proposed in early 2002. It was subsequently named Electrozoom and the first edition hit the shelves in the same year. It was the brainwork of the then final year students of the department.
The initial editions of the book focussed mainly on current trends in ECE and dealt only with a single topic per book. Students were asked to send their opinions in the form of articles on that particular topic. Later, taking into account the request from the subscriber community, the plan took a different course which then laid emphasis on several many topics at once instead of one. In due time, the format has been changed to include several topics that dealt not only with technical issues but also non-technical ones. With a strong coalition consisting of four streams namely Editorial, Design, Marketing and Promotions, the book raced forward towards achieving the wildest dreams of the students in bringing forward an efficient stronghold for the students to show their mettle.
Few editions of the book introduced to the readers, the history of electronics right from its humble beginnings to the ultra modern trends in today’s technology. Students started sending innovative cartoons that were filled either with humour or with strong messages to the society which were also published in the subsequent editions. Later an idea was proposed to publish about a new place in each edition which was successfully implemented. Some places that were discussed include Krubera Caves, Hoia Forest, Ayers Rock, Grand Prismatic Spring and Lencois Maranhenses National Park. The team then started displaying the photos of the students who sent the best articles for a specific edition in the consecutive edition of the book. This idea was a tremendous hit and attracted a large audience from the student community.
Students working in any of the four streams also get an opportunity to work in the other streams too. Thus, students are exposed to a wide variety working conditions which help them gain an edge over their competitors in this modern world. There is also a good chance that the juniors can learn a lot from their seniors and thus hone their skills and sharpen their thoughts towards perfection.
Today, Electrozoom is not just a book. It is a wonderful tool and a strong platform for students to showcase their talents. Students are free to express their opinions and views on current affairs in form of articles or show their creativity in writing poems and short stories. A dedicated student body with an excellent support from the faculty is working 24/7 to bring out interesting content in every edition of the book. The actual contribution comes from the galaxy of readers who send their articles, poems, short stories, cartoons etc., that fill the book completely.
We hope that we always have your support and we promise you that we will support you with all our will from the core of our hearts.
Yours lovingly, Team ElectroZoom.
