ENGAGE: Ask questions, have students journal, host an open forum discussion in order to support and understand what students already know about the topic at hand.
EXPLORE: Invite students to explore the topic or concept. This phase should be completed and supported through a hands on learning model.
EXPLAIN: This should be teacher lead and will allow students to ask questions to develop a deeper and more meaningful understanding. Students can also share what they learned in the "explore" stage at this time. This is an opportunity for teachers to fill in any gaps to ensure student understanding.
ELABORATE: Students should apply what they have learned, students may create a presentation, explore the topic further, work with peers, or journal in order to expand upon what they have learned, working to build a full and supportive perspective of the concept at hand.
EVALUATE: This can include self assessment, peer assessment, or teacher assessment as well writing or exams. Students will share what they have learned and will be evaluated to determine if they are grasping the concepts of the topic at hand. We can see what and how students have learned in this phase.
