If you want a dedicated, wired listening solution designed specifically for kids and teens with small heads, choose ELECDER i37; if you need to wirelessly stream audio from an airplane seat or gym machine to your own Bluetooth earbuds, choose Twelve South AirFly SE.
• ELECDER i37: The biggest strength is its secure, lightweight on-ear fit tailored for children and smaller adults, but the trade-off is that it relies entirely on a wired 3.5mm connection with no wireless capability. This pick is for parents needing durable headphones for school, travel, or VR gaming without battery anxiety.
• Twelve South AirFly SE: Its greatest asset is transforming any standard headphone jack into a Bluetooth hub with over 20 hours of battery life, yet it requires you to already own a pair of compatible wireless headphones to function. This pick is for frequent travelers and commuters who refuse to deal with tangled cords during long flights or workouts.
The ELECDER i37 is not trying to be a high-end audiophile device or a futuristic smart gadget; it is a straightforward, practical tool built for one specific demographic: younger listeners. When I look at the design specifications, the "On Ear" placement and the specific mention of age ranges for kids and teens tell me this is engineered for comfort on smaller frames. The plush enclosure material suggests a focus on softness against the skin, which is critical when a child needs to wear headphones for hours during a long car ride or a classroom session. The fact that it folds down makes it incredibly portable, fitting easily into a backpack or suitcase alongside other essentials.
For families, the most compelling feature here is the reliability of the wired connection. In a world where batteries die unexpectedly, the i37 plugs directly into any device with a 3.5mm jack—from Chromebooks and PCs to tablets and even older DVD players. There is no pairing process to fail, no charging cable to forget, and no software updates needed before a flight. The dynamic driver range of 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz ensures that the sound quality covers the full spectrum of music and dialogue, while the 32-ohm impedance keeps the volume manageable for young ears without requiring excessive power.

However, this product has clear limitations that mean it isn't for everyone. Because it lacks any wireless technology, you are tethered to your device by a cable. If you are looking for best ear clip headphones for flights or any scenario where freedom of movement is paramount, this won't work. Furthermore, the design is explicitly sized for children and petite adults; larger adults might find the headband adjustment insufficient for a comfortable fit. It is also strictly a media control device with sound isolation rather than active noise cancellation, meaning it blocks out some ambient noise physically but does not electronically erase engine roar or crying babies.
The Twelve South AirFly SE serves a completely different purpose. It is a bridge between the analog past and the digital present, designed to solve the frustration of outdated audio jacks in modern travel environments. Its primary use case is making legacy audio sources compatible with modern wireless gear. If you have expensive Bluetooth earbuds like AirPods, Sony buds, or Bose headphones, this tiny adapter allows you to plug them into the 3.5mm jacks found on almost every airplane entertainment system, hotel TV, or treadmill console. The compact plastic enclosure weighs only about 13 grams, making it nearly invisible in a pocket or carry-on bag.
Battery life is the standout metric here, with a claimed duration of over 20 hours on a single charge. This is a game-changer for long-haul international flights where you might listen to multiple movies and music playlists back-to-back. Unlike many budget adapters that drain quickly, the AirFly SE can even be used while it is plugged into a USB-C charger, ensuring you never lose your audio mid-flight. The inclusion of Bluetooth 5.2 support means faster, more stable connections with lower latency compared to older standards, which helps prevent that annoying lag between video and audio.
This product is ideal for anyone who values clean cables and wants to use their favorite high-quality wireless earbuds in places that still rely on old-school wiring. However, it is not a standalone product. You cannot buy the AirFly SE and expect it to produce sound on its own; you must already possess a pair of Bluetooth headphones that can enter pairing mode. It is also worth noting that while it supports aptX and SBC codecs for good stereo transmission, it does not support Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) devices like certain hearing aids, so compatibility checks are necessary for those specific users. It is a tool for connectivity, not a replacement for the headphones themselves.
• Best for battery independence → ELECDER i37: With zero internal battery required, these headphones will work as long as your source device has power, eliminating the risk of a dead adapter ruining your experience.
• Best for wireless freedom → Twelve South AirFly SE: If you want to disconnect from the physical cord and enjoy the convenience of Bluetooth, this is the only choice that works with existing air travel and gym equipment.
• Best for young children → ELECDER i37: The adjustable on-ear design and durable build are specifically intended for the smaller heads of kids and teens, whereas the AirFly SE is just a transmitter that doesn't address fit or comfort.
• Best for long-haul flights → Twelve South AirFly SE: The 20+ hour battery life and ability to connect to seatback systems make it essential for keeping your own high-quality earbuds connected for the entire journey.
• Best value for students → ELECDER i37: As a complete unit that includes both the transducer and the ear pads, it offers a ready-to-use solution for homework and casual listening without needing extra purchases.
• Best for tech enthusiasts → Twelve South AirFly SE: With Bluetooth 5.2, aptX support, and touch controls for volume adjustment, it offers a more advanced technological experience for those who love managing their audio settings.
• Best for durability on the go → ELECDER i37: The foldable mechanism and robust 3.5mm jack construction are built to survive being tossed into a school bag or suitcase repeatedly.
• Best for minimalism → Twelve South AirFly SE: Its tiny dimensions and lightweight profile make it easier to carry than a full pair of headphones, though it requires you to bring your own audio output device.
I would choose the Twelve South AirFly SE for my own needs, specifically because I am an adult traveler who already owns high-quality Bluetooth earbuds. The ability to transform the restrictive wired environment of an airplane seat into a seamless wireless experience is worth every penny of effort. While the ELECDER i37 is a fantastic, rugged tool for children, it simply cannot compete with the utility of removing cables from my daily routine. If I were buying for my nephew or niece, I would immediately switch to the ELECDER model for its perfect fit and worry-free operation. But for myself, navigating the world of modern travel, the AirFly SE is the superior companion for bluetooth sleep headphones for flights scenarios where I need to stay connected to the entertainment system without the hassle of a tangled wire.
No, the ELECDER i37 is a wired-only headphone that uses a 3.5mm jack and does not have any wireless capabilities or internal Bluetooth chips.
It works with almost all standard Bluetooth headphones that can enter pairing mode, including major brands like Apple, Sony, and Bose, but it does not support hearing aids that rely on Bluetooth Low Energy.
The Twelve South AirFly SE offers over 20 hours of battery life on a single charge, whereas the ELECDER i37 has no battery since it draws power directly from the connected device.
They are designed primarily for kids, teens, and petite adults, so larger adults may find the adjustable headband and on-ear cup size less comfortable for extended wear.
