I am currently a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign working with Drs. Brian Ogolsky and Jen Hardesty on the Relationships in Context Research Program for the Department of Human Development and Family Studies. My current role is a collaborative effort to extend the global reach of relationship science, broadly defined.
I am a personality researcher who uses sociocultural context to investigate important questions within the areas of romantic relationships, identity, and health. I conduct systematic reviews to comprehensively understand past findings, measurement, and the contexts studied. In empirical work, I apply a critical novel lens considerate to sociocultural context to evaluate generalizability and effect sizes (Hyde, 2005; Hyde, 2015). With only two data points many groups will appear to be distinct. Considering the full scope of gender and related social constructs and their intersections, I compare group specific associations and evaluate the patterns of group differences for a more nuanced understanding.
I was trained at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Department of Psychology social-personality division working with Dr. Jaime Derringer in the Etiology of Personality and Individual Characteristics (EPIC) lab. To put my interests succinctly, my motto in life, research, and teaching is "Norming queer and queering the norm".
