ElderCheck Privacy Policy
Effective date: August 22, 2026
ElderCheck ("the app") is a check-in companion app that lets an elder confirm they are okay with a single tap, and lets their caregivers know. This policy describes what information the app handles and why.
1. Information We Collect
ElderCheck does not require you to create an account with a name, email, or password. When you first open the app, it signs you in anonymously and assigns your device a random identifier — this is not tied to your name or any personal profile.
The app collects and stores the following in order to function:
A device push notification token, so the app can alert you (or the person you're paired with) when a check-in, help request, or acknowledgment happens.
Check-in timestamps: when the elder taps "I am OK," when a caregiver acknowledges it, and when "I Need Help" is used.
The 6-digit pairing code that links an elder's device with their caregivers' devices.
Optional settings you choose to save, such as a daily check-in reminder time and your device's timezone.
We do not collect your name, email address, physical address, or location. We do not access your contacts, photos, or camera.
2. How Information Is Used
All of the information above exists for one purpose: keeping an elder and their caregivers in sync about check-ins and help requests. The pairing code and push tokens let the app deliver notifications to the right devices; check-in and acknowledgment timestamps let both sides see the current status. We do not use your information for advertising, analytics profiling, or any purpose unrelated to the app's core function.
3. How Information Is Stored and Shared
Check-in data and device tokens are stored in Google Firebase (Firestore), a cloud database service, and notifications are delivered through Expo's push notification service, which relays messages to Apple (APNs) or Google (FCM) to reach your device. These are infrastructure providers we rely on to run the app — they process data on our behalf and do not use it for their own purposes.
We do not sell your information. We do not share it with advertisers or other third parties. Your check-in data is only visible to devices paired to the same family using your pairing code.
4. Your Choices
You can unpair a device from a family at any time via Settings → "Reset role." This removes that device's push token and pairing from the family record. To request deletion of data associated with your pairing code, contact us below.
5. Children's Privacy
ElderCheck is designed for use by adults and is not directed at children under 13.
6. Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes, we will update the effective date above.
