Elastic Lens is an independent Chrome extension that helps users connect to, inspect, search, manage, and export data from Elasticsearch clusters they configure themselves. Elastic Lens is not affiliated with or endorsed by Elasticsearch BV or Elastic.
Elastic Lens handles only the information needed to provide its features.
When a user saves a connection, Elastic Lens may store locally in Chrome extension storage:
Elasticsearch server URL
Connection name and configuration
Elasticsearch username
Elasticsearch password
Elasticsearch API key or authentication credentials
When the user searches or manages a cluster, Elastic Lens may access data returned by the Elasticsearch endpoint selected by that user, including:
Index names, mappings, settings, health, and metadata
Search queries and results
Elasticsearch documents and document fields
Error responses and diagnostic information
Elastic Lens stores the following locally in the user’s Chrome extension storage:
Saved connection profiles
Query history
Saved queries
Local preferences
Error logs
Optional OpenAI API key
If a user chooses to use AI Search, Elastic Lens may handle:
The user’s OpenAI API key
Product text selected for vectorization
Natural-language product search requests
Embedding results and Elasticsearch vector-search results
AI Search is optional. It is used only after the user adds their own OpenAI API key and explicitly selects an AI feature.
Elastic Lens uses this information only to provide its single purpose:
Connecting to user-configured Elasticsearch clusters
Authenticating with those clusters
Browsing and managing indices
Running Elasticsearch searches and displaying results
Exporting search results
Saving local query history, saved queries, and diagnostics
Providing optional semantic and natural-language AI search
Elastic Lens does not use data for advertising, tracking, profiling, creditworthiness, lending, or unrelated purposes.
Elastic Lens does not operate a developer-controlled backend or database.
Connection details, credentials, optional OpenAI API keys, saved queries, query history, preferences, and error logs are stored locally in the user’s Chrome extension storage. Users may remove this information through Elastic Lens, Chrome extension settings, or by uninstalling the extension.
Elastic Lens sends Elasticsearch requests only to the Elasticsearch endpoint selected and configured by the user. These requests may include authentication credentials, queries, and the data required to perform the user-requested action.
When a user explicitly uses an AI Search feature, Elastic Lens sends the necessary OpenAI API key, product text, or search request to OpenAI’s API at api.openai.com.
Elastic Lens does not send Elasticsearch documents, credentials, API keys, queries, or analytics data to the Elastic Lens developer.
Users should use HTTPS for production Elasticsearch endpoints. http://localhost may be used for local development.
Elastic Lens uses the following third-party services only when initiated by the user:
The Elasticsearch endpoint configured by the user
OpenAI API, only when the user enables and uses optional AI Search
Elastic Lens does not sell user data or share it with advertising networks, analytics providers, or data brokers.
Users control:
Which Elasticsearch clusters they connect to
Which credentials they provide
Which searches and index actions they run
Whether they use optional AI Search
Whether they save or delete local connection profiles, saved queries, query history, and error logs
Users should only connect to Elasticsearch environments and use credentials they are authorized to access.
Local extension data remains in the user’s Chrome profile until the user deletes it, clears extension data, or uninstalls Elastic Lens.
Elastic Lens does not retain Elasticsearch content on a developer-controlled server. Data retention by user-configured Elasticsearch servers and OpenAI is governed by those services’ own policies.
Elastic Lens uses Chrome extension storage for local settings and credentials. Users are responsible for securing their Elasticsearch clusters, authentication credentials, network access, and API keys.
This Privacy Policy may be updated when Elastic Lens features or data practices change. The “Last Updated” date will be revised when changes are made.
