Hi, I'm Elaje López. For the past two years, I've worked as a writing specialist for multiple premedical pathway programs. I support students from the start of their medical school application process to the end of it, providing services like brainstorm sessions, personal statement workshops, individualized feedback on drafts, proofreading and editing, and mock interview practice sessions. I have also worked in medical school admissions, and I've gained substantial experience reviewing applications and interviewing applicants to determine their institutional fit. It's my goal to help students maintain their authentic voices in their applications while ensuring that they are presenting themselves in a way that makes them feel confident in their application's success.
Before starting this line of work, I attended Columbia University, where I earned my BA in English with a special track in premedical studies. In my time as a student there, I worked as a Peer Fellow and Libraries Fellow at the Columbia Writing Center, where I was trained to work with students on all types of preprofessional applications. I'm deeply familiar with the long road to medical school because I've been on it! I know the ins and outs of gaining clinical experience, drafting a personal statement, stressing out over secondary essays, and preparing for interviews because I've helped dozens of students, but I also know what it feels like to move through those different steps as a premedical student seeking help and advice.
