This site is a collection of projects and assignments designed for use by students in the Alberta English Language Arts Program of Study. They were created during the time that I was teaching at Light of Christ School for the Calgary Catholic School District.
I designed this site to be of assistance to teachers who might be teaching the same grade level, especially if they are teaching remotely during COVID-19 shelter in place / lockdown / etc. Many of the projects were inspired by material from the Alberta Education Grade 7 ELA Illustrative Examples document.
For each project, there is a project page to be handed out to the students. In many cases, I have included the Word file so you can adapt it as needed, as well as the PDF file so you can see what it looks like in case you suspect that it is not formatted properly in Word. The grading page gives you an idea of how you might grade each project (if I was teaching this class today I would convert these pages to rubrics).
Keep in mind that these projects do not represent the complete ELA 7 curriculum; there are many conversations, anthology readings, preparatory work, grammar worksheets, and other tasks that take place in between. If I were to teach this content today, I would overhaul the rubrics; since Brightspace (D2L) does not allow you to create rubrics with different maximum points per row, these would have to all be revised.
Nevertheless, I hope that this material will be useful to you; if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
I don't just teach ELA, sometimes I play the tuba

A novel study around I Am David by Anne Holm (sometimes called North to Freedom).
My study guide borrowed heavily from Disa Banker's guide posted on the San Juan Unified School District website (no longer available).
The Literature Circles document is based on a district resource and borrows from Literature Circles: Voice and Choice in the Student Centred Classroom, H. Daniels (1994).
