The first Environmental Justice Academy in 2016 was organized by the Environmental Protection Agency's Environmental Justice division. Training sessions in the following years incorporated more partners in the organization and support and followed slightly different formats while still orienting leaders to resources and teaching some of the essential leadership skills. The alumni assocation exists to continue to support alumni of the trainings and to support future Environmental Justice Academy trainings.
