La Petite École
Held on the campus of Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, La Petite École is an initiative of the EIU French Program and the French Club. We invite central-Illinois youth, in first through sixth grade, to join us for four fun-filled sessions to learn about the awesome French language and the amazing people around the world who use it! Taught entirely by advanced undergraduate students of French, and overseen by faculty members, each hour-long session will give young learners the opportunity to study French vocabulary, and then put it to use!
Why Study French!?
The French language, the sixth most widely spoken language in the world, is a fast-growing international language that is used in diplomatic, cultural, medical, educational, and political spheres. In fact, French is spoken in more than 43 countries worldwide, and it is the only language--other than English--to be spoken on every continent! So, learning French, especially at a younger age when it is easier, could be extremely beneficial to your child!
The deadline to register is October 24, 2018!
La Petite École at EIU will meet on Saturday afternoons, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM, beginning on October 27, 2018 and ending on November 17, 2018. You can see all of the fun categories covered by each session (like the alphabet, simple conversations, animals, and food!) here. Students will play games, make crafts, and have a French-themed snack!
The deadline to register for Fall 2018 is October 24, 2018. Tuition is $30.00, which goes to help cover supply costs and provide a small stipend to our undergraduate teachers.
