End of 2025-2026 Academic Year: Lab Trip to Franklin Fountain and Shane's Confectionary
To wish well to our departing Penn PREP Scholar, Valerie, our seniors, Sage, Petros, Roshni, and LucÃa (although only Sage could attend, drat), and start to wish Fare Thee Well to our amazing technical staff including Pragatee and Niser, we went as a group to a SECRET OUTPOST of Old City's well known ice cream shop Franklin Fountain (green building, red door, cacob nib sign).
Inside we had a remarkable presentation about the history of chocolate in Philadelphia from proprietor extraordinaire, Eric Burley, which includings chocolate TASTINGS and TONS of history. We had no idea Philly was so critical to literally the development of candy/chocolate in the US.
Then the lab enjoyed a free-for-all shopping experience in Shane's Candy Store (outside and inside pictured - so cool, you should visit!), followed by actual ice cream from Franklin Fountains.
Sad to see folks move on, but thrilled we could have such a unique (and yummy) time together.
