EIC India Theory Alliance
EIC India Theory Alliance
The Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) experiment at the Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) will be the next big experiment in medium energy Nuclear and High energy physics. The primary objectives of EIC are to provide an understanding of the internal structure of the proton especially the multi-dimensional partonic structure (tomography), dynamics of gluon saturation including the color-glass-condensate, and the emergence of mass and spin of protons and other hadrons from their fundamental degrees of freedom.
Considering the scientific importance of EIC, particularly with respect to its long-term implications, it will be prudent for our community to get involved in some of the EIC sciences so that there is a theory community in India when EIC starts to produce data. In most nuclear and high-energy experiments, including those at the LHC, RHIC, FAIR, and Belle, there is a sizable and significant theoretical community from India. It will be crucial to develop such programs for EIC as well. As a result, a number of us are starting an EIC-India-Theory-Alliance (EITA) and are reaching out to other physicists to join this endeavor.
In the beginning, the intended activities would include online/in-person discussions (once a month), seminars, colloquiums, schools and workshops, and conferences - primarily to get acquainted and updated with the theory areas of the EIC experiment. A primary goal of the initiative will be to assist and engage graduate students and postdocs from a variety of QCD backgrounds in conducting theoretical research in EIC science and to broaden its appeal across sub-areas of EIC physics.
