Character matters on this team. Certainly we understand that student-athletes make mistakes and poor choices. We understand that there can be a need for second chances and or moments to let student-athletes learn and have personal growth from mistakes they make. Taking ownership of mistakes and behaviors is an extremely valuable character trait for a student-athlete. A bad moment that is "out of character" where the student athlete takes ownership for behavior or mistake is something where there might be room for a discussion. Overall, We will consider the "body of work" when it comes to character issues on the team. Repeated negative issues, toxic attitudes and habits, poor effort and lack of concern and respect for teammates, coaches, teachers, administration and the community at large is something we won't tolerate. Dismissal form the team is always an option should we feel it the best for team.
Any violation of team standards will be looked at on a case-by-case basis and once the coach makes inquiry, discipline will be handed out. Coaches reserve the right to dismiss anyone from the team should they deem it appropriate for the overall well-being of the team.
Athletes MUST be academically eligible. Anyone ineligible for more than THREE weeks (combined) will be dismissed from the team. Reason: If they are ineligible, they cannot compete. If they cannot compete we cannot depend on them. Athletes are expected to come to practice and workouts and take part in all team activities except competitions during the ineligible period. An athlete will be ineligible if they have three or more D’s or one or more F’s.
Any athlete caught using or pictured with tobacco, drugs or alcohol at any point in the year will be suspended (minimum 1 competition) and possibly dismissed from the team at the discretion of the coach. Violations will be considered on a case by case basis and punishment will be at coach Babcock and Mintle’s discretion after inquiry is made.
Any violations of school rules up to and including consistent classroom disruption will be considered violations of team rules and will be subject to consequences during the season or upcoming season as necessary.
If an athlete misses practice, please email coach Babcock or Mintle and excuse that absence. We operate under the assumption that if you pay $185 and WANT to be a part of the team you will make it a priority to be there. We are asking athletes to commit to 3 days of practice. Lack of communication and practices will result in not competing in up coming meets. We recognize that our student-athletes have the need to miss practice occasionally. All we ask is that student-athletes take the personal responsibility to let us know what they need in terms of missing practice. If you miss a lot of practice without us knowing the reason behind it, don't be surprised if you are not entered in meets and we essentially move on without you.
If an athlete displays any type of unsportsmanlike conduct at a competition or online, they will be suspended from competition for the next scheduled meet and could result in demotion from Varsity or Junior Varsity. Athletes can also be suspended from competition due to inappropriate behavior during team practices and functions and online videos or posts.
If an athlete requires a visit to the doctor for any reason deemed serious by the coach, which is not limited to but could include, heart problems, Brain injury, severe bone or skin injuries, chronic sickness…the athlete must obtain a medical release from the physician in order to participate in practice and the meets.
Track and Field
Finish the season with an event performance in the top 50 of the state.
Score points for the team (top 9) at the Jeffco League Championship.
Participation in 9 or more varsity meets during the season and must include League Championship.
Coach reserves the right to letter an athlete that proves exemplary in practice participation, work ethic, commitment to and level of improvement and overall dedication to the team.
A further note on lettering...
A further note on Lettering...Athletes must show dedication to the team. While we accommodate multi-sport athletes, a considerate and respectful effort must be made by all athletes to be at practice and to compete in meets for the ENTIRE year.
A helpful and positive attitude toward the team is a relished trait that coaches hope to see in their student-athletes.
The team needs to matter if you are part of it and student-athletes should make it a priority if they are going to be a part of the team. This DOES come into consideration when we decide on awarding Letters at the end of the year.
