Elkin City Schools Vision

We envision a school system that ignites the desire to learn in every student by providing them with unique, varied and authentic learning experiences.

Dear Parents and Students,

The Elkin High School Course Guide is designed to provide students and parents with useful information for making decisions about available programs, high school course selections, graduation requirements, and other helpful suggestions for ensuring a successful academic experience in high school.

This guide contains a description for each course offered at Elkin High School. Programs and Courses of Study are aligned with the High School Exit Standards mandated by the North Carolina State Board of Education. An Occupational Course of Study is made available for eligible students with disabilities who have an Individualized Education Plan.

Students and parents may use this Course Guide to select courses as they plan their high school education. Each student is an individual with different needs, interests, and personal goals. These differences should be taken into consideration when selecting courses for each year of high school.

Please study the information found within this Course Guide carefully and select courses wisely. Information on specific courses and requirements can be accessed by clicking on the Course Catalog tab in the navigation menu at the top of this screen. These course descriptions and explanations are designed to help students identify the curriculum plan that best fits their needs.

Please complete this registration carefully including the selection of elective alternates. If a chosen elective is not available, alternate electives will be used for placement. When submitted, the student course planner becomes a contract indicating the student's agreement to participate in the selected courses or alternate courses, if necessary.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Mrs. Kerri Mullis 10-12 grade (mullisk@elkin.k12.nc.us) or Mrs. Keshia Edwards 9th grade (edwardsk@elkin.k12.nc.us).
