Prior to joining the #iSchool at the University of South Carolina, Ehsan was a post-doctoral researcher at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in the Department of Preventive Medicine-Health and Biomedical Informatics working with Dr. Kristi Holmes.
Before moving to Chicago, he was part of a research team at the Science Park at the University of Wolverhampton, UK to evaluate the Knowledge Exchange & Enterprise Network (KEEN) program.
Ehsan completed his PhD in Information Science from the Statistical Cybermetrics Research Group at the University of Wolverhampton, UK, with Professor Mike Thewall. In his doctoral dissertation, he conducted a large-scale online survey and used massive quantitative data analyses of several online social platforms to provide evidence that social media metrics, known as alt(ernative)metrics, can capture otherwise invisible types of research impact that cannot be recognized through traditional metrics.
He also holds a master's degree in Information Science. In his master's dissertation, he used text-mining and information visualization methods to map nanoscience and technology publications.
To date, Ehsan has served as a lecturer and course designer on foundational and emerging courses related to information science at several universities in both face-to-face and online settings.
He has over 8 years of professional work experience in the information industry. He has served in different roles, including education and product manager of an IT company, online information service librarian, reference librarian, and webmaster in several organizations.
