Since this is currently an 8th grade project and there is not a lot of time, my focus is on raising awareness about resources currently available. However, I have decided to continue trying to help senior citizens get help with real estate taxes during my semester-long civics project course next year, because this topic affects everyone in town. I plan to work on creating a program in Essex that helps senior citizens and disabled citizens with their real estate taxes by allowing taxpayers to make donations to a non-profit charity fund when they pay their tax bill. The town of Needham, MA has a very similar program.
