Global Outreach

One of FRC 5980's passions is global outreach to other FIRST teams.  Whether they are an FRC, FTC, or FIRST Global team, FRC 5980 embraces the opportunity to learn about other teams, other cultures, and seek ways to help one another.  The students even coined the term Excellence in Global Relations (a play on our school's acronym, EGR) as a way to capture how important global outreach is to our team's identity.

To date, FRC 5980 has engaged multiple teams, and even mentored a few.

• Team Niger - EGR Robotics mentored Team Niger via video calls for the 2017 FIRST Global Challenge

• Team Tunisia - EGR Robotics had a video call with Team Tunisia 2017 FIRST Global Challenge to share ideas and collaboration possibilities

• Team Tanzania - EGR Robotics mentored Team Tanzania for the 2018 FIRST Global Challenge

• Team Comoros - EGR Robotics held a video call with Team Comoros on 18 January 2020.  The two teams really embraced the opportunity.  After learning about how small the library was on the main island, EGR Robotics launched a book drive, ultimately sending a large number of books (mostly science and math) to the team, much to their delight.

• Team Namibia - EGR Robotics held a video call with the team, comprised of strictly students but with a passion to grow FIRST in Namibia.

• Team Iceland - Mentor Mr. Price met with Team Iceland in Reykjavik while on vacation, then again at the 2019 FGC held in Dubai.  He continues to dialog with the coaches as we share a mutual desire to start and grow FTC in Iceland.

• Team Norway (aka FRC 7239) - FRC 5980 held a video call with Team Norway, learning much about the challenges they face gaining sponsors and with their build space.  FRC 5980 did find a way to help FRC 7239...given the extreme cost in having parts shipped from the USA, FRC 5980 was able to step in and help ship a large number of items for a fraction of the shipping cost.

• Ro2D2 - FRC 5980 held a video call with an FTC team from Romania learning much about their school, their program, and Romania.

• FRC 1156 Under Control - FRC 5980 held a video call with this FRC team from Novo Hamburgo, Brazil.

• FRC 7563 MegaZord - FRC 5980 held a video call with this FRC team from Jundiai, Brazil.
