Janes Walk: Our Voices - Our Place: Collage, Sound, and Story Through the Divide
Friday May 1st
Description:
Walk by local residents from both sides of the Allen Expressway for an arts-focused walking activation through a laneway shaped by displacement, memory, and community resilience.
Together, we reflected on the corridor’s history, where hundreds of residents were displaced in the 1960-70s, and connect it to today’s development pressures along the Eglinton LRT. Through storytelling, audio, shared reflection, and collective collage-making with materials from local businesses, participants will explore how communities can reclaim creativity, memory, and a sense of ownership over neighbourhood change.
Collage:
Walk participants were asked to write down what their neighbourhood would feel/look/taste/sound like if their voice was reflected in how that space operated. At the end of the walk, the ideas were added to a collaborative pin collage.
