Eggcrate Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 3, 2026
Eggcrate is a personal vinyl record collection manager for Android. This policy explains what the app does and does not do with your data. In short: everything Eggcrate stores stays on your device. There is no Eggcrate server, no account system, and nothing is collected by the developer.
Camera
Eggcrate uses your device's camera to scan barcodes and, as a fallback, to photograph a record's cover so its printed text can be read (on-device text recognition). All image processing happens on your device only, using Google's ML Kit. No photo, barcode image, or frame from the camera is ever uploaded, stored on a server, or sent to the developer. A cover photo used for text recognition is discarded immediately after that recognition step — it is not saved to your device's photo library or anywhere else by this feature.
The one exception is the optional condition photo you can attach to a record you own, from the Edit screen. If you choose to add one, it's copied into the app's private storage on your device (never a shared or public folder) so you can review it later — it is never uploaded anywhere, and is deleted automatically if you delete that record.
Your Discogs account token
Eggcrate uses the Discogs API (discogs.com) to look up releases, cover art, and pricing data. To do this, you provide your own personal Discogs API token in the app's Settings screen. That token is:
• Stored locally on your device only, using Android's encrypted storage.
• Sent only to Discogs' own API, as authentication for the searches and lookups you perform.
• Never sent to the developer or any third party besides Discogs.
You can remove your token at any time from Settings, or revoke it directly from your Discogs account settings.
Your collection and wishlist data
Every record you add — collection items, wishlist entries, notes, grades, condition photos, cached pricing — is stored in a local database on your device only. None of it is uploaded, backed up to a developer-run server, or shared with any third party. Uninstalling the app deletes this data permanently, the same as any other locally-stored app data.
Network requests
Eggcrate makes network requests to two places:
• Discogs' API, using your token, to search for and look up releases, cover art, and price data.
• eBay and Discogs' website, when you tap the "sold listings" or "view on Discogs" links — these open a normal web page in your browser or a web view. Eggcrate does not send your collection data, token, or any personal information to eBay.
No other network calls are made. Eggcrate does not include any analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting software development kit (SDK), and does not track your usage.
Children's privacy
Eggcrate is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, of any age, since it doesn't collect information at all beyond what's described above and stored solely on your own device.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will change with it. Since Eggcrate has no accounts or contact information on file for users, you're encouraged to check back here if you have concerns.
