Course: Communication Design Fundamentals
This project started by choosing a web-based article to reformat into an 8-page zine. Before digging into the specificities of the magazine, we were tasked to create and iterate upon a design system, comprising of a color scheme, font hierarchy, and possible graphic elements, pictured below.
In focusing my zine on the music artist Brakence, I wanted to emulate the strong color theming around his recent album punk2, and play with the graphic text that he often uses in his branding. Thus, a large focus of my work on this project was in the design of the text art used in the title, and in creating the pattern which makes up the texture of the flyleafs.
Finally, in creating the page layouts, I wanted to balance the white space across the pages in order to stretch the text across the page length, while also creating a rhythm of images, some of which stretch across the margins of the page, and others which nestle between, to create playful variety.
In this project, I worked in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign, along with analog processes to draft graphics.
