To/from the airport to Athens city center

Airport transport is a rather convenient way of reaching Athens city center. Once you arrive at the arrivals level follow the signs to Athens Underground. Going through the Departures’ level is easier as you will reach the ticket office level where you can buy a 9€ ticket to the airport (if you get a return ticket it’s 16€). There is also an offer of a Tourist ticket at the price of 20€.

Your line to Athens city center is Metro line 3 (blue line) (Airport- Doukissis Plakentias-Aghia Marina). At about 40 minutes you will have reached Syntagma square (Metro stop: Syntagma) where you can either change line (2)(red line) or take the Tram to other destinations. From the next station (Metro stop: Monastiraki) you can change to line 1 (green line), the overground (Pireus-Kifissia), to other destinations (see more about Athens Transport Information here).

Please consult the Athens Transport Information site to find the way to your hotel or the places you would like to visit. Most sites, like the Acropolis and Acropolis museum, the national archaeological museum, the modern art museum and places like Plaka, Monastiraki, Kolonaki or even Pireus (for those who decide to take a day trip to an island) are easily reached through the Underground (line 2,3) and the Overground (line 1). In general, any kind of guide will offer you useful information about how to move around the city, while guides like Lonely Planet include lovely choices to make most of your visit in Athens.
