PhD Scholarship

A three year PhD Scholarship is available in the frame of the PhD program in Science and Technology of Bio and Nanomaterials of Ca' Foscari University of Venice (Italy) under my supervision (Paolo Musolino, for more information please visit https://sites.google.com/site/musolinopaolo).

The title of the research project is “Mathematical methods for the analysis of nonlinear problems in composite materials” and the research area is Partial Differential Equations and Applications.

Description: The purpose of the project is the development of mathematical tools for the analysis of the heat conduction in composite materials and for the study of the impact of cavities in thermal or elastic properties of materials. Particular emphasis will be paid on the cases where nonlinear laws appear in the mathematical formulation. In the study of composite materials, this may happen for example when nonlinear relations link the heat flow and the temperature distribution in the matrix and the inclusion; in the frame of elasticity, instead, this may appear in the case of nonlinear traction problems. Other aspects of interest include the study of the influence of the shape of an object on its properties, that may be formalized by specific mathematical objects. The PhD Student will work on the SPIN Project DOMINO https://www.unive.it/pag/40174/?L=0. The PhD Student is expected to be seconded for minimum 6 and maximum 12 months during the PhD scholarship within the MSCA-RISE-2020 EffectFact project https://cordis.europa.eu/project/id/101008140. Expenses will be covered by the MSCA-RISE-2020 EffectFact project in accordance with the EU rules.

The call is now open and the deadline is May 31, 2023 at 13:00 Italian time. For the application, please visit the webpage https://www.unive.it/pag/43334/

Since the procedure may take some time, the interested candidates are strongly advised to start the application as soon as possible and to contact me at paolo "dot" musolino "at" unive "dot" it. A Master's degree is required to access the PhD Program. Graduating students may also apply provided they obtain their Master's degree (or equivalent) by July, 31st 2023. Candidates who do not obtain the qualification within the date will be excluded.

In order to be selected for the specific research project, you need to apply to the PhD program in Science and Technology of Bio and Nanomaterials and in the project you need to include please mention the thematic  “Mathematical methods for the analysis of nonlinear problems in composite materials”. Please note that is important to ask reference letters to be uploaded directly by the authors as explained in the procedure.

For any information, please feel free to contact me and the PhD Office at phd "dot" application "at "unive "dot" it for specific questions on the procedure.
