Eeshan works at the Institute for Transport Studies (ITS) at the University of Leeds as a postdoctoral researcher alongside Prof. Charisma F Choudhury in the UKRI-funded NEXUS (NEXt generation activity and travel behavioUr modelS) project. There, he contributes to developing next-generation models, bringing together travel behaviour modelling and data science. To this end, he has been extensively working with various passive data sources (social media, GPS, mobile phone, etc.) and the application of AI to better predict travel decisions in the changing landscape.
He also worked with Prof. Zia Wadud and Prof. Jillian Anable on the UKERC project investigating the effects of vehicle automation on the UK's decarbonisation goals. He has multidisciplinary acumen as an infrastructure planner and applied statistician in transport and energy demand in national and international contexts. His expertise involves crafting both qualitative and quantitative surveys and conducting primary and secondary data analysis to assess the efficacy of transportation policy interventions on both local and national scales.
Eeshan currently serves as the Early Career Researcher (ECR) representative at ITS and is affiliated with the Priestley Centre for Climate Futures at the University of Leeds. He was a young member of the World Conference on Transport Research Society Young Researchers’ Initiative (WCTRS-Y) and Data, Planning, and Analysis Group Young Members Subcommittee of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) of the US National Academies and Transportation Research Group (TRG) of India. He has published over 10 peer-reviewed articles in leading academic journals, with some gaining widespread attention from academia and the public. Eeshan has contributed in various capacities to some of India's most extensive urban transport consultancy projects (SPARC, UAY, and IMPRESS) with notable international collaboration experiences (with researchers from UK, Colombia, and Bangladesh).
Before this, he completed his PhD under Dr Arkopal K Goswami's supervision at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur. His doctoral dissertation developed a roadmap for the sustainable operation of ride-hailing/sharing services. Prior to this, he did a Master's (MTech) specialising in Infrastructure Design & Management (2018) at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur and graduated (BArch) from the Indian Institute of Engineering Science & Technology (IIEST) Shibpur. Besides, he was also an exchange student (DAAD scholar) at the Technical University of Munich under the tutelage of Prof. Rolf Moeckel during 2017-18.
