Workshop on Experimental & Empirical Methods in Linguistics

The Experimental & Empirical Methods in Linguistics (EEL) workshop was initiated in 2017 with the aim of introducing students and researchers with methods and tools used in psycholinguistics and computational linguistics. The workshop is intended to be a combination of talks and lab sessions. Talks provide an opportunity to learn about some current trends in psycho/neuro-linguistics, computational linguistics and cognitive science. Lab sessions familiarize the participants with R programming, experiment design, data analysis and corpus linguistics. The workshop aims to build a cohort of researchers who are interested in doing cutting edge research in these areas with a focus on languages spoken in the Indian subcontinent.

Salient features of the workshop

  • Lab sessions on how to design and run a psycholinguistic experiment.
  • Lab sessions on data analysis (using R) of different types of experimental data (e.g. grammaticality judgement, reaction time, eye-tracking data, etc.).
  • Lab sessions on basics of computational linguistics using NLTK/python
  • Lectures on current trends in psycholinguistics, neurolinguistics, computational linguistics and cognitive science.
