MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS GROWING, GO WARNS
The mental health crisis in the Philippines is a significant concern, with approximately 12.5 million Filipinos suffering from mental health conditions, including anxiety and depression.
The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated these issues, leading to increased rates of anxiety, depression, and suicide. In the 2021-2022 academic year, there were 404 recorded cases of completed suicide among public school students, and 2,147 recorded cases of attempted suicide.
The crisis is particularly pronounced among Filipino Gen-Zs, with 73% reporting struggling with mental health issues. The government is urged to implement stronger mental health services and expand resources to address this pressing issue.
