Excited to join Ash Vasudeva, Andrew Ko, Noelle Ng, and Phil Emer at AASA, The School Superintendents Association's national conference next week to talk about AI and Education.
AI may transform many parts of education, but as school leaders, where and how do we start? Part I of this two-part series is the 30,000-foot view of AI in schools. What is available? Who does it benefit? What are the opportunities and challenges for schools, in terms of operations and instruction? Presenters will walk through all this and more, including related ethics, best practices, and professional development. Discussants will also introduce a purpose-built AI Innovation Center focused on innovating education through solutions while measuring AI's collective impact.
With John Bailey and Michael Brickman
On November 14, 2023, the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) hosted an event exploring the impact of generative AI on education. The event began with an overview of AI capabilities from Claire Zau of GSV Ventures and AEI's John Bailey, highlighting tools like ChatGPT, Claude, and Bard.
Next, Bailey moderated a discussion with Roberto Rodriguez from the Department of Education about the Biden administration's executive order on AI and the agency's research and development efforts.
The focus then shifted to K-12 classrooms, with a panel featuring Kristen DiCerbo of Khan Academy, Jeff Livingston of EdSolutions, and Jeremy Roschelle of Digital Promise. They discussed strategies for integrating AI, including prompt building, engaging practitioners, and training users.
The event concluded with a discussion on higher education and workforce training, moderated by AEI's Michael Brickman. Panelists Virginia Fletcher of 2U, Tiffany Hsieh of Jobs for the Future, Nina Huntemann of Chegg, and Kevin Johnstun of the Department of Education spoke about online college courses, student engagement, and helping young people utilize AI capabilities.
