edTPA is a subject-specific assessment with versions in 28 different teaching fields covering Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle Childhood and Secondary education.
edTPA includes a review of a teacher candidate’s authentic teaching materials as the culmination of a teaching and learning process that documents and demonstrates each candidate’s ability to effectively teach subject matter to all students.
edTPA does not ask candidates to do anything that most are not already doing in their preparation programs, but it does ask for greater support for and demonstration of these skills that research and educators find are essential to student learning.
edPTA is formally introduced in EDU-207 & EDU-212 where you will learn more about how the School of Education uses edPTA in our teacher preparation programs. You may gain exposure in other EDU coursework including methods and internships.
NOTE: One of the requirements for a teaching license in Ohio is passing all the Ohio Assessments for Educators (OAE) exams aligned with the desired license.
One of these exams, Assessment of Pedagogical Knowledge (APK) will be waived for candidates who receive a score of 37 or higher on their edTPA project that is completed in their Capstone class.
WeVideo is the recommended video editor to use for your edTPA assessment. You will first gain exposure to this resource in EDU-214 when you will be required to create a professional video. Within that class, you will be given an access code that will allow you to upgrade from the free version of WeVideo to the advanced features.
Be sure to refer to the WeVideo Academy for short tutorials that can further assist you with all aspects of video editing.
