So, if you want to find out how to use Chat GPT, keep on reading.
1
To be able to use Chat GPT, OpenAI requires you to make an account. To start things off, head to OpenAI’s Chat GPT website.
Step
1
Once you are on the Chat GPT site, you will have the option to “Sign up”. It is very common at this stage to be met with a capacity error from OpenAI. As frustrating as this is, this error happens often.
Your best option at this stage is to either wait or refresh your page. If these two methods do not work, read our article here where we show you how to resolve this.
However, if you don’t have this error, consider yourself lucky. To continue, simply click “Sign up” and choose your preferred login method.
Step
2
The next step is to verify your account. If you have chosen to sign up via email, OpenAI will send a verification email to your inbox. Follow the link to complete this step.
Up next, OpenAI will ask you for your first and last name, followed by your mobile number to further verify your account.
Fill in these details and follow the next verification steps.
You must be over 18 to use Chat GPT.
Now that you have signed up to OpenAI we can start using the AI chatbot. It is very simple to do and we will show you how below.
Step
1
Once you have signed in, you will be presented with a screen that looks similar to the image below. To use Chat GPT, all you have to do is simply type anything into the search bar.
The possibilities are literally endless. Note, that the more details and information you give the AI bot, the more specific the response will be.
For example, if you wanted to write lyrics to a song in the style of a particular artist, you can tell Chat GPT that. What if you want the lyrics to rhyme? Chat GPT can do that too, as long as you prompt it beforehand.
What’s great about the tool, is the Chat GPT can respond to previous answers it has given. So, let’s say Chat GPT has managed to produce some song lyrics but you actually wanted them in a punk rock style. You can literally just type “write this again but in the style of punk rock”. And Chat GPT will understand your request.
Chat GPT has a ton of uses for education. If you are working on developing curriculum resources, it can help with things like drafting lesson plans and documents useful for daily lessons, bell ringer activities, assessments, unit plans and more.
It’s incredibly straightforward to summarize an article with Chat GPT. All you need to do is copy the text of the article you want it to look at and then type the prompt: “Summarize the text below”. This will provide a brief summary of the article’s topic and content.
You can also get more takeaway information by typing something like: “Summarize the text below, putting the key points into a numbered or bullet point list”. This way, you can get the important takeaways needed within the article.
As we all know, filling out a job application is a long and laborious task. Why not speed up the process by having Chat GPT compose your cover letter?
To do so, simply ask the bot to write you a cover letter. Be sure to specify the job role and your experience as this will ensure the letter is more tailored to the vacancy. That’s it! The AI bot will then write you a great letter in seconds.
Luckily, Chat GPT also has the ability to help you write a CV for a job application. This method requires a bit more input from your end.
To start things off, just ask Chat GPT to write a CV. The bot will respond by asking you for your experience, education history, and skills. Submit these details, then watch the magic happen. The AI bot will start churning out an entire CV for you!
To best use Chat GPT, know what you want to achieve from using the application ahead of time. It will respond best to specific prompts and may ask you to provide more detail if your request is a little vague.
Alternatively, it may provide vague answers including information or detail which is not relevant to your request. Ultimately, the more information you provide with your request increases the chances of getting a quick and effective answer.
If you don’t know how to code, it’s best not to use Chat GPT to write code. It can produce code in languages such as Python and C++, but if you don’t know these you may miss important errors and functionality. Having said that, if you have some understanding, Chat GPT can explain and simplify code. You need only to prompt, eg: “Explain the following code”, or “What is this function doing?”.
If you are a developer with knowledge of coding, Chat GPT can be used to improve, rewrite, and write test cases for code.
Chat GPT is a fantastic tool, but if you want to use it, you need to be aware of some of its limitations. According to OpenAI, Chat GPT can produce “incorrect or nonsensical answers”. If you do use this tool, it would be a good idea to sense-check the model’s response to ensure there isn’t any misinformation there.
The model also has the potential to occasionally produce biased and harmful content, however, we are yet to experience this drawback.
Lastly, Chat GPT has very limited knowledge about events and information after 2021. This is down to the data the model was trained on, although we expect this limitation to be resolved in future versions of the model.
If you have an existing OpenAI account for the Playground or Labs you can use the same login details to access Chat GPT. If you don’t have an account, however, you will have to create a new one on the OpenAI website.
When trying to access the conversational chatbot, OpenAI will ask you to log in automatically. But, only if it has been a while since you last used the tool. To log in, simply head directly to the Chat GPT page and the ‘login’ and ‘sign up’ options should appear in the first window.
So, that’s all you need to know to get started on Chat GPT. Using the AI model is very easy to do – the only real obstacle is OpenAI’s capacity error.
In recent news, OpenAI has announced a paid subscription service for Chat GPT, named Chat GPT Plus. The service comes in at $20 a month and promises to give subscribers special benefits over free members.
The benefits include access even during peak times, faster responses, and priority to the latest features. If you are a frequent user of Chat GPT, this could be an attractive upgrade for you. So be sure to check it out here: Chat GPT Plus – what you need to know.
