The Future of Reading: The Unique Relationship Between the Eye and Reading in the Eye Generation
The decline in reading proficiency not only affects academic performance but also profoundly shakes the foundations of writing, expression, and critical thinking. When reading experiences become fragmented, students struggle to build a solid foundation in writing. Faced with literacy-oriented assessments that feature extended prompts and demand cross-disciplinary integration, students without sufficient training in deep reading often find themselves at a loss. Reading is not merely a tool for passing exams—it is the essential path to understanding the world, expressing oneself, and engaging in dialogue across disciplines. Reading proficiency is, therefore, the most fundamental and indispensable ability students need to navigate the challenges of the future world.
Call for Papers – Suggested Topics (including but not limited to):
• Teacher Education and Professional Development:
Cultivating educators equipped with competencies in reading instruction, digital literacy, and AI integration.
• Classroom Challenges and Pedagogical Responses:
Rebuilding students’ focus and capacity for deep reading through innovative instructional design.
• AI and Digital Applications:
Exploring the applications and limitations of artificial intelligence in reading and literacy learning.
• Interdisciplinary Perspectives:
Examining reading ability and learning outcomes from scientific and neuroscientific viewpoints.
• Educational Policy and Cultural Channels:
Investigating the roles of policy and culture in promoting reading and literacy.
• Scientific Reading and STEAM Education:
Strengthening reading comprehension and interdisciplinary understanding within STEAM education.
• Texts in Multicultural Contexts:
Building an inclusive reading culture through diverse perspectives and multicultural texts.
• Other Related Topics:
Studies on social trends and educational transformations relevant to reading and literacy.
Organizing Institution
Based on the Ministry of Education's "Guidelines for Subsidizing Universities to Hold Academic Seminars for Teacher Education."
Guiding Unit: Ministry of Education
Host: Department of Education and Potentials Development, National Dong Hwa University
Co-organizers :Hua-Shih College of Education, Remote Area Reading and Action Center, Science Education Center, Multicultural Education Center, Educational Neuroscience Experiment Center.
Seminar Focus Areas

Submissions are invited for research papers or projects related (but not limited) to educational policies, teacher education, curriculum design, and instructional practices that aim to enhance students’ reading proficiency. Papers from other education-related fields are also welcome.
2. Student Special Topic Sessions:
We have added this session to encourage undergraduates to share the results of their graduation theses or research projects. The thesis that meets the symposium’s theme is welcome for submission.
Approximately six sessions, expecting 30–50 papers (double-blind review process).
Outcome Benefits
We aim to achieve the following through this seminar:
1. Through keynote speeches and research thesis presentations, we will promote academic exchanges and align new trends in educational development with policy and curriculum instruction, aiming to develop more ideal and feasible educational initiatives.
2. The seminar will provide opportunities for faculty, graduate students, and educators from various universities to share research results on educational topics such as digital learning, multicultural education, literacy education, and science education, fostering opportunities for future academic or practical collaborations.
3. It will provide an opportunity for undergraduate students to present their research, encouraging inquiry-based learning and exchanges at the undergraduate level, thereby developing future researchers.
