Pastor Ruben Frye was born in the little town of Mound Bayou, Mississippi to the union of Elder Charlie Frye and Missionary Minnie B. Frye. He is a third generation member of the Church of God in Christ
He was a member of the St. Mark Church of God in Christ where his father was the pastor and Superintendent O.S. Sheard (the father of the current Presiding Bishop J. Drew Sheard) was the District Superintendent. Pastor Frye’s mother, Missionary Minnie B. Frye, was the District Missionary.
In 1972, he migrated from Memphis, Tennessee to Jamaica, New York. There, he became a member of the Glorious Temple Church of God in Christ pastored by Superintendent Willie G. Robinson. He received his Minister’s license in 1980 and in 1984 was ordained an Elder by Bishop F.D. Washington. In 1986, Pastor Frye started the Educational Church of Holiness, COGIC, a new church building which was built up from the ground.
On the 12th day of December, 2006, Pastor. Frye was appointed the District Superintendent of the South Central District by the late Bishop James H. Gaylord, Prelate of the First Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of Eastern New York.
In July 2012, Superintendent Frye transferred into the First Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of Barbados, West Indies with the Bishop Jerome Norman was Prelate. He was appointed First Administrative Assistant and District Superintendent.
In 2016, due to Bishop Norman's failing health, he resigned as Prelate of the First Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of Barbados. A letter was sent by Bishop Norman to the office of the presiding Bishop, Charles E. Blake and the General Board recommending that Superintendent Frye, his First Administrative Assistant, be given the opportunity to carry on the Jurisdiction until an overseer could be elected or appointed.
At the November 2017, National Holy Convocation in St Louis, Missouri, Bishop Blake met with Superintendent Frye and Elder Carl Wilson. The decision was made that Superintendent Frye was to carry on the Barbados Jurisdiction until Bishop Vincent Matthews could look into the situation. Superintendent Frye oversaw the Barbados Jurisdiction from 2016 to 2019. During which time he made all Jurisdictional reports to the National Church.
He now serves in the New York Southeast Jurisdiction where Bishop Tyrone L. Butler II is Prelate, as District Superintendent of the Bishop Jerome Norman District. and Chairman of the Board of Superintendents.
Superintendent Ruben Frye has been pastoring for over 36 years, has been a Superintendent for 16 years, married for 57 years with 8 children. He received his doctoral degree in Theology in 2009. from the Wings Over Jordan College and University.
