Our College

St. Thomas College of Teacher Education, Pala was established in 1957 as one of the pioneer institutions in the field of teacher education. The Institution was accredited with a 4-star level by NAAC in 2000. It is the first teacher education institution to be reaccredited with an A+ grade by NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council 2007) with an institutional score of 92 in the state of Kerala. The college received reaccreditation with an A grade in 2014, achieving a score of 3.32 in the third cycle, and was subsequently reaccredited with an A+ grade by NAAC in 2025, reaching a score of 3.35 in the fourth cycle.

The Institution was conferred minority status by National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions 2010 Our college is quite uncompromising in providing the students with the best amenities. Our growth towards academic excellence is due to the commitment and concrete enterprise of our teachers and administrative staff. Many of our teachers are frequently invited to give lectures and have served as resource persons for many academic and community-oriented programmes.

The college was started to meet a precise need, i.e., to train teachers for the secondary and higher Secondary schools in our country. This idea was conceived and made into reality by the then Bishop of the Diocese of Palai, His Excellency Rt. Rev. Dr. Sebastian Vayalil, the founder & first patron of our institution. From 1981 to 2004 His Excellency Rt. Rev. Dr.Joseph Pallickaparampil was our patron. His Excellency Rt. Rev. Dr. Joseph Kallarangattu is our present patron. Fr. (Dr.) Thadathil Joseph is the Present manager of the college. The college offers B.Ed., M.Ed., Ph.D., and Elementary Teacher Training courses.

This institution is owned and run by the Catholic Diocese of Palai and is affiliated with Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam.

Educational Extracts is a peer-reviewed education journal published bi-annually during January and July every year by St. Thomas College of Teacher Education, Pala, Kerala since January 2013. It aims to promote research and academic excellence among teacher educators, teachers, and research scholars in Universities/Colleges and other research centers. We are committed to publishing high-quality original research works including case studies, experimental studies, articles, book reviews, and surveys related to Education and Interdisciplinary areas. This journal is published for academics, researchers, administrators, field experts, and those people concerned with mediating research findings to policymakers and practitioners. The main objective of the journal is to promote and encourage research in various subjects related to education and to disseminate accurate knowledge for improving educational scenarios.
