Progress monitoring is an essential component of effective special education practice. It ensures that individualized education program (IEP) goals are not only measurable, but also tracked consistently to inform instruction and promote student growth. The following plan outlines how Henry’s IEP team will monitor his progress toward three SMART goals related to reading fluency, behavior, and mathematics. By collecting and analyzing data regularly, the team can adjust supports and instruction to better meet Henry’s unique learning needs and align with the assessment-to-practice cycle (Yell, Katsiyannis, Losinski, and Christle, 2019).
