Rosa - Site Designer & Organizer (SDO) - Digital Law
Zachary - Multimedia & Graphics Designer - Digital Access
[Rosa]:
Hi, Wiki Group 5!
Just jumping in here to get us started. Our team consists of Liza, Shayna, Zachary, Rosa. After reading the instructions for Project 1: Group Wiki Project, this week we are to:
Assign Roles: (we have 4 team members, so two will share a role)
Content Locator
Site Designer & Organizer/SDO
Multimedia & Graphics Designer
Select 3 Topics - (from the 9 Themes of Digital Citizenship):
Digital Etiquette
Digital Communication
Digital Literacy
Digital Access
Digital Commerce
Digital Law
Digital Rights & Responsibilities
Digital Health & Wellness
Digital Security
As for roles, I would love to serve our team as the Site Designer & Organizer (SDO). I enjoy this type of work. I would be happy to organize our team's content in the best logical way and make it aesthetically pleasing at the same time.
As for my vote on what 3 Topics we should use to build out this Wiki library, I am personally drawn to: Digital Etiquette, Digital Health & Wellness, and Digital Security.
[Zachary]:
Hello everybody! I had some trouble being able to edit this but I am finally able to. Rosa, thank you for outlining what we need to do this week!
With my background in graphic design, I would love to also work as our Side Designer and Organizer (SDO), but I am not sure that we will need more than one person in that role and I think it would be more beneficial to work as a different role. I can be our Multimedia and Graphics Designer, so I can find and post relevant materials to our site as we build it. If it is okay with you Rosa, I would still love to help out with the organization of our site alongside with you and offer some ideas. I do love how you set this up for the rest of us and made it easier for the rest of us so I will follow your lead.
I agree with you on Digital Etiquette and Digital Security, but I do believe Digital Access plays in important role in education to ensure that all students get a fair opportunity to learn and reach their highest potential. That is one thing I am passionate about so I believe I can put my best work towards those three topics.
[Rosa]: Hey, Zachary! First, how cool that you kept in step with the name/color coding! :) I just thought it would be easy for our instructor, Michele, to track our work. Glad to see you think so too. And yes, of course, and sure thing - I'd love for us to collaborate (key word here! ;) on building the navigation, structure, and natural organization and flow of this site. It has to feel good to everyone. Thanks for stepping into the Multimedia and Graphics Designer role - similarly, if I come across any fitting photos, videos, or other multimedia files, I'll be sure to share them with you (and our team).
Re: your topic suggestions, I'm very cool with them. Let's see what Shayna & Liza have to share. Otherwise, we can go with your three. In fact, I will change my 'Digital Health & Wellness' choice at the top of this page to 'Digital Access,' as you suggested. Let's calibrate with each other now, and we can wait for Shayna & Liza's votes to finalize. (By the way, I love your reason for wanting Digital Access - "a fair opportunity" and learning/reaching their highest potential. Love that! )
[Zachary]: Perfect! That sounds good Rosa, I'm sure we'll all be bouncing ideas off one another as we go through this project. Yes we do all have roles, but I believe Michele can track who adds what to the Wiki page so we can all collaborate on each of the roles so it shouldn't be an issue. I like what you did with the organization of this page so I was hoping to keep the trend and maintain it!
[Rosa]: Just acknowledging your last note, Zachary. I think we're off to a great start. Just have to hear from Liza and Shayna now.
[Rosa]: Zachary, our instructor, Michele, wrote to me tonight that if no one else shows up this Group #3 Wiki project, we will need to only do "2" Digital Citizenship themes. I propose this means that I will find content for one, and you will find content for the other. Of course, along our search, if we find something 'good' for either of the topics, let's grab it! :) If this happens, I'd like to take on Digital Etiquette, unless you really want to do this one. Thoughts?
[Zachary]:
Hi Rosa, sorry for the late response. That works for me, I would love to focus on Digital Access so between the two of us as of now, Digital Etiquette and Digital Access works out! I will share with you anything that I find along the way. Hope you had a great weekend!
Also, if there is a time that we can both work on this simultaneously in order for us to bounce some ideas off each other in real time, I think that could benefit us. I'm not saying wait for a time to get going on this, maybe if there is a time for us both to work on this that would be great, if not I will keep checking this page to see what else there is to add.
As of now, I have to work my second job tonight from 5:00-10:00 so I may be able to work on finding resources after if I complete my discussion, if not I will most likely work on it tomorrow during the day around my lunch time for teaching so for about 30 minutes or tomorrow night again because I have work again from 5:00-10:00 for my second job. Hopefully we will be able to find a time to work on this at similar times so we can communicate more effectively. (I am currently just adding a paragraph for each new thought I have for this while I wait for a response, no worries it just helps me organize my thoughts and allows me to remember what was on my mind regarding this project).
[Rosa]: You're not at all late replying, Zachary! I appreciate your dedication to juggle your busy work schedules with school. You'll see that I added some content to some of the pages. Feel to add, embellish, etc. Also, would you be okay adding your photo to our home page? (I ask because I recognize that some people are shy with photos.)
Re: us working simultaneously, do you mean by phone - or us both working in this sandbox at the same time? Either is fine. I'm just not sure which you mean.
YES to adding your thoughts so you don't forget - love this! Me too. :)
[Zachary]: Perfect! I'll take a look when I get the chance and I am fine with adding a photo of myself, I will add that as soon as I finish the discussion for this week. For us working at the same time, I just meant working in this sandbox at the same time we do not have to over the phone or through something like zoom.
[Rosa]: Nice photo, Zach. Sure, and yes, we can definitely work here at the same time. I'm dedicating Friday to work on this Wiki project and this week's blog assignment. Do you have any time on Friday? If not, just let me know what works for you.
[Rosa]: I will be working on this site tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon (and Sunday, too, if needed). "See" you around if you're here! :)
[Zachary]: Hello I am so sorry, I was with my cousins away all week for thanksgiving and I just got home and I am now able to work on this so I will work on this now!
[Rosa]: No worries. My son was home from Boston these past few days, too. I'm here in the sandbox now. I see you're also online.
[Zachary]: Going forward, I plan on adding more strategies for educators to possibly use when ensuring digital access in schools for all students to have opportunities to become digitally sound. I will find more articles and some videos that describe the necessity of it.
Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!
I am also unsure of what the extent of this project is. I am trying to put together a focus within digital access and I am leaning towards online learning and accessibility for all students, especially during this pandemic and how it may affect some students, especially coming from low income households, and how educators can allow for equal opportunities.
[Rosa]: I know what you mean re: not knowing the extent of this project. For my Digital Law Wiki page, I added a statement that my list (on that page) is not all-inclusive because there is so much to cover and the tentacles of the topic are far and wide. I suspect that the purpose of this Wiki project is to show our understanding and ability in the skill of collaboration and not necessarily give an explicit presentation on our two chosen Digital Citizenship topics. So, I think we're good.
As for me, I think I am done with my Digital Law page, unless our instructor tells me otherwise. I will continue to check in on this Wiki site each day, as I have been, to look for any comments (in this Discussion section) and to see if anything needs my "organizing role" effort. But you do a great job at formatting! It's Sunday night now, and I haven't had a chance to look at what is due next week - but I think I remember from the overall project details that next week's project is to create videos (one from the each of us) to present this Wiki site. If so, then maybe this week IS the last week for content? Regardless, as I said above, I think we're in great shape. :)
Happy Thanksgiving weekend to you, too!
[Rosa]: Hi, Zachary. This feels obvious, but I never want to assume. I will make the (1-minute intro) video for the Digital Law page and you will make the video for the Digital Access page, yes?
[Zachary]: Yes of course I will be making a video for the Digital Access page. I am going through setting up some short presentations for the discussion board and the video blog, I am wondering if you will be showing our Wiki site and going through the Digital Law page piece by piece and talking through it or if you will be making a separate presentation. I plan on screen recording and talking through the digital access page then using peer feedback to go through and fix or change anything in the video along with the page itself.
[Rosa]: Hi there. I'm not clear on your question above, but if you're asking if I shared our Wiki URL in the Discussion Board this week, no, I didn't. I thought about it, but the instructions didn't say to, and I thought there might be a reason for that. I think I remember reading that in Unit 7 or 8 we will be sharing our URLs with the class (I may be wrong, though). If you check out our Digital Law page, you'll see where I added my video (this week's assignment) at the top of the page. For the Discussion Board, I embedded the YouTube video.
[Zachary]: I decided to add more to my page because I was not completely satisfied with it, after adding a couple videos and some points I thought were necessary I will continue to look back and see what needs to be done but I think I am just about satisfied with it.
I believe that I am ready to submit it! Whenever you are ready I think would be a great time for us to submit it.
[Rosa]: I noticed your content and media additions and think they look great. I submitted this URL link for tonight's assignment. It was nice working with you! :)
