While most teachers know how to use Google Forms to collect data or student reflections, what most teachers don't know is how to use that data to increase the purpose of the reflection in the first place.
Things you can do:
Use the same form for routine Self Reflections so the students can address their growth from unit to unit, or skill to skill
Create a Form that students use as a progress monitoring for your welcoming or closing activities.
This could be weekly or daily.
Use the Add- Form Mule to have the students responses auto-email not only to the student but also to their parents to open a door for a conversation to happen about their growth
Use Google Sheets tools to organize, color coordinate, respond to the student reflections.
FlipGrid is a video producing tool that allows teachers to create an assignment and students to respond with video.
Things you can do:
Students can verbalize their growth instead of writing it.
Create 1 assignment that the students post their initial goal for the unit or year.
As the year progresses forward, the students reply to their initial video with their progress.
You can have the videos set to private to allow students to really open up about their goals.
Blog Post Ideas: Goal Setting for Success: Share, Document, Reflect, and Celebrate
The New Google Sites is easier than ever. Students can create their own Google site as a portfolio of their learning. Students can take it with them when they graduate and use it for Post High School planning.
Things you can do:
Students can include videos, Documents, images and more into their Google Site
Can be shared with family as a progression of skill growth
Show Skill Mastery throughout the year or time in the building
Create a Student Work department portfolio
When a student takes any class in this given department they will create their initial portfolio.
On this portfolio they will be able to show their skills across all classes in that department
Screencastify is not just some screen recording tool. Created for teachers, Screencastify allows teachers to change their classrooms through the use of Video.
Screencastify Submit is the newest addition to their tool that extends teachers ability to have students self-reflect.
Things you can do:
Allow students to explain the choices they made to make sure you as the educator see the full picture.
Create the opportunity for students to film themselves explaining an idea, process or presentation, students can watch it over and reflect on areas of strength and areas for growth.
Take it one step further and open it up for the students classmates to watch each others video and provide feedback
