An Overview
The needs assessment survey below was created to gather data on the expressed needs of the technology resources available in lower elementary (Pre-K to 2nd grade) of an elementary dual-language Montessori school. The survey has been designed to assess both hardware and software resources, in terms of both teacher and student usage. The data collected from the lower-elementary teachers and instructional aides will be analyzed to create a technology implementation plan that will promote the academic growth of the students and close the learning gaps in those grade levels.
Description of the Target Audience
The needs assessment survey will be administered to fifteen teachers and aides at an Elementary School, a dual-language Montessori school in Port Arthur, Texas.
The teachers participating in this survey range in age from 25 to 55 years old with 0 to 20 years of teaching experience. In addition, the instructional aides participating in the survey range in age from 24 to 50 years old with 1 to 10 years in education. The teachers and instructional aides teach in classrooms consisting of 18-22 Pre-K/Kindergarten (combined) students or 1st grade/2nd grade (combined) students using Montessori methodology. The teachers’ and instructional aides’ previous classroom technology experience ranges from minimal to proficient.
Purpose of the Needs Assessment
The purpose of this assessment is to measure the need for technology resources available for instructional purposes in the specified grade levels to promote academic growth and close the learning gaps the school has measured over the last two years. This assessment is designed specifically for lower elementary teachers and aides, where unlike in other grade levels, instruction must be tailored to meet the needs of combined grade levels.
