This Technology Needs Assessment project was developed to examine the current landscape of technology use among instructional designers at South Texas College. As higher education continues to evolve through online and hybrid learning, instructional designers play a crucial role in shaping digital learning experiences. Understanding the real-world challenges they face, including technology-related obstacles, is essential for informed institutional planning and support.
This project focuses on identifying the barriers that instructional designers encounter when using technology in their day-to-day work. The results will be used to propose solutions and guide future decisions on training, resource allocation, and system improvements.
Our website is organized into two key sections, accessible via the navigation menu:
Technology Needs Assessment Survey
This section provides background on the project, details about the selected organization, the target audience, the purpose of the assessment, and a direct link to the online survey.
Technology Needs Assessment Results Report
This section will present an analysis of the survey responses, interpretation of the data, and actionable recommendations based on the findings.
The target audience for this needs assessment consists of instructional designers working at South Texas College. These professionals are responsible for designing, developing, and supporting digital and hybrid learning experiences across academic departments.
They may hold various roles, including course developers, faculty trainers, multimedia specialists, and LMS support staff. While their specific tasks may differ, all rely heavily on technological tools such as learning management systems, video editing software, and content authoring platforms to fulfill their responsibilities.
Given their integral role in supporting student learning and faculty instruction, understanding their access to, usage of, and challenges with technology is key to improving institutional capacity and effectiveness.
The purpose of this needs assessment is to identify barriers to effective technology use among instructional designers at South Texas College. By gathering input directly from these professionals, this survey seeks to uncover:
Common obstacles to using instructional technology tools
Gaps in access, training, and technical support
Specific needs for professional development
Organizational or policy-related constraints that may inhibit innovation
The data collected through this survey will support the development of targeted strategies to enhance instructional designers’ ability to deliver high-quality learning experiences. Ultimately, the goal is to empower this vital group of professionals with the tools, support, and clarity they need to thrive in a technology-driven educational environment.
