Sundays and Public Holidays in Poland
Sundays
Throughout Poland, Sundays are considered a day of rest, this means that most stores, shopping centers, and other services will be closed. This closure is part of the Sunday Trade Ban. Exceptions to the Trade Ban includes convenience stores (i.e. Zabka), gas station stores, pharmacies, cinemas, and restaurants. Restaurants and cinemas inside shopping malls may remain open, even if the shopping mall itself is closed. Convenience stores may open later and close later on Sundays, therefore, if necessary, gas station stores may be a great option as they are open 24/7.
Specific Sundays are considered Commerical Sundays, where all stores are open as normal. These days include:
The Sunday two weeks prior to Christmas
The Sunday one week prior to Easter
The last Sunday of January, April, June, and August
The calendar provided by the Council of English Division Students in Poland may prove useful to locate Commercial Sundays.
Public Holidays
Public holidays function similarly to Sunday where most stores are closed. The following Wikipedia article provides information on this. Most places will be closed on days classified as Public Holidays (Non-Working Days) on the Wikipedia page.
