75 Years of the Medical University & 30 Years of English Division
The Medical University of Lublin celebrated its 75 years anniversary on 21st November, 2025. In 1950, UMLub became an independent institution known as the Medical Academy in Lublin, gradually developing its own clinical hospitals and teaching departments throughout the following decades. In 2001, the English Division was established, and in 2008 the Medical Academy was granted university status and renamed the Medical University of Lublin.
The establishment also celebrated the 30th anniversary of the English Division during the same time. To mark these achievements, the Medical University of Lublin, in collaboration with the English Division Student Government organized a series of events which took place from November 18-22, 2025. The anniversary celebrations commenced on the first day with an open house introduction of partner institutions from China, Georgia, Kosovo, Egypt, and Spain.
On the subsequent days, Dr. Mattie Salim lectured on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in breast cancer diagnosis and management, followed by a session on how to successfully conduct and publish research. The last day of the event started with the opening remarks by the rector, Prof. dr hab. Wojciech Załuska. Various career possibilities were discussed by the alumni of our university: Dr. Mattie Salim, Dentist Hussein Wahid, and Dr. John Alexander.
Numerous innovations in medicine were discussed by many prestigious professors and doctors. A panel discussion on interprofessional education took place to highlight the importance of healthy communication and relationships among different healthcare professionals for the smooth functioning of healthcare systems.
The international cultural night showcased the English Division's global character. Representatives from the student body included students from Poland, India, Sudan, Pakistan, Myanmar, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Palestine, Iraq, and Iran, which was responsible for setting up individual stalls. The stalls featured their country's flag, unique cultural souvenirs, and students proudly dressed in their traditional attire. A particular highlight was the culinary aspect, as guests were given the opportunity to sample an array of foods from every country. The Indian stall offered a trio of popular street foods: savory pakoras, tangy gol gappe, and a selection of namkeen snacks. The Pakistan stall delighted guests with spicy chana chaat and rich haleem, alongside traditional games like ludo. Not to be outdone, the Polish stall provided a taste of the host country with classic pierogi and various other traditional Polish dishes. Beyond the cultural displays and performances, the students also dedicated the night to a charitable cause. They organized a photo booth initiative to collect charity for Sudan, offering attendees a picture for a small donation.
The evening continued with a series of live performances that served as the night's final, unforgettable act. National groups took to the stage to share their culture through captivating dance and music. This vibrant celebration brought the week-long anniversary events to a memorable and fitting close, underscoring the unity and rich diversity that defines the English Division and the wider Medical University of Lublin community.
