Background
Edsel Carranza is a Los Angeles, CA. based classical, and romantic time period trumpet player, but slowly is learning the contemporary genre of music and is making progress. He started to play trumpet when he was 7 years old. Now, he has been playing for over 8 years. Edsel started playing trumpet when he was in kindergarten. Along the way, he has been practicing other instruments like the trombone, and euphonium. Edsel started playing trumpet because he would always next to his uncle which he also played the trumpet, and he would listen to him and realized that the trumpet was his favorite instrument which made him decide to pick the trumpet for his first ever instrument. He has played alongside the LA Phil and goes to the program called YOLA. He went to a tour alongside the LA Phil to Bogota, Colombia to work with other students around South America. During the summer of 2025, he went to a music festival called YOLA National Festival. Edsel has also gone to Mexico to play music over there during his entire summer. He has gotten lessons/masterclass with many professional trumpet players including Erick Jovel, Joseph Vrana, Thomas Hooten, and Christopher Still.
Where is he from?
His family is from Oaxaca which also made a possible impact in his life because in the Oaxaca culture since there are many beautiful melodies written for trumpet. Edsel's parents are specifically from Santo Tomas Lachitaa, Oax. located in the sierra juarez region of Oaxaca, Mex.

Edsel currently attends at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts (LACHSA) in the classical music program.
What solos/methods has he performed/practiced?
He has played multiple concertos in recitals such as the Oskar Böhme trumpet concerto in f minor. He practices using the Arban's method book which he worked with the most, Clarke trumpet studies for chriomatic improvement and the Schlossberg.
How does Edsel warm-up?
His daily warm up is starting off with long tones and using a drone. When he is finished from doing that for about 10 minutes, he then starts doing the Chickowitz's exercise to better control air when moving through different partials/intervals and even octaves for 15 minutes. Once he's finished with doing that, he then starts to work on lip flexibilities for 10-20 minutes to gain the technique of faster air without exaggerating pressure with only the lip. When he has a specific music sheet to practice, he focuses on the exercises/warm-up that aligns with the skills that music/excerpt contains.
Fun Fact
Edsel's favorite symphony is the Sibelius Symphony No. 2 in D major and he was inspired by the Empire Brass Quintet and the Canadian Brass Quintet.
