The class is designed to:
help practicing and future teachers integrate technology in their daily teaching practices.
it is a practical, hands-on course that is grounded in constructivist learning theory.
the students will learn by engaging in authentic tasks in a project-based learning environment.
Along with the latest (2024) ISTE student and teacher standards the focus this semester will be on integrating generative ai into the course topics. We will also examine Quebec's Digital Action Plan for Education
The course is part of the undergraduate program offered by the Faculty Education at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec.

For this semester (September '25), we will be using an open educational resource (OER) textbook and readings from various sources. The readings will be posted on MyCourses and accessed through the Perusall link under Week 1. I will explain this during the first class.
We will be using David Jonassen's research and framework on learning, problem solving, and computers as 'mindtools' to help build the course topics and syllabus.
I've decided to use Stacey Roshan's book Tech with Heart: Leveraging Technology to Empower Student Voice, To Create Compassionate Classrooms and Ease Anxiety.
I've brought the book back as I think it espouses the philosophy and approach that's even more important in the age of generative AI. The book will be purchased through Perusall.
The first half of Everyday Media Literacy: An Analog Guide for Your Digital Life by Sue Ellen Christian (Routledge, 2024). Chapters 1 to 6 → Using, Spending, Thinking, Informing, Verifying, Selling.
The second half of the book will be used in EDPT 204 during the winter semester
Several articles from What PreK-12 Teachers Should Know About Technology in 2023: A Research to Practice Anthology.
The Quebec Digital Action Plan: Guide & Overview → will also be used at selected times throughout the semester.
I've also uploaded 25 Years of Ed Tech by Martin Weller as background reading during the beginning part of the course.
