AP Ambassadors work with the 6th grade classes at Columbia Elementary School, promoting a positive academic culture, championing the Edison region, and developing strong literacy experiences.
During the 2023-2024 school year, our group of 17 AP Ambassadors facilitated book clubs for the 6th grade students, wrote letters back and forth, and helped the students create a zine where the 6th graders wrote their own stories.
During the 2024-2025 school year, our team of 20 AP Ambassadors worked with the 6th grade classes at Columbia. We took five different trips to meet with the students where we facilitated book clubs, taught the students how to make comic strips, acted as pen pals, and built connections through fun games! We celebrated our work together on Pi Day by sharing some delicious pies.
Many of our Ambassadors are former GATErs from Manchester. We work with the 6th grade classes to promote advanced coursework and literacy. The Ambassadors also love to see their former teachers!
During the 2023-2024 school year, we helped the 6th graders create a zine for publication. The students received several copies of their zines to share with friends and family. The Ambassadors also taught the students how to evaluate the effectiveness of a zine.Â
During the 2024-2025 school year, we took a team of 20 AP Ambassadors to Manchester twice to work with the 6th grade classes. We taught the students how to make comic strips and we challenged them with an intense game of Jeopardy!
Our AP Ambassadors connect with Computech throughout the school year. We attend Computech's recruiting nights to give families information about our 6-year Edison Computech magnet program. The Ambassadors promote AP courses to the 8th graders during Move-up Day. We also present to students in their history or English classes at Computech.
Our Edison Tiger Honor Society Leadership Board is made of former Gaston students who are excelling in their AP courses at Edison. They work with the Gaston Scholars at the middle school to promote Edison's AP program and our Edison Tiger Honor Society. We present to the history classes to promote AP HUG. The ETHS leaders present to parents at students at many Gaston events throughout the year.
