This attractive Georgian townhouse in the West End of Edinburgh had been used as an office for many years but was very tired and in need of a full refurbishment including re-wiring and re-plumbing. Several different companies were going to be using the space so the décor needed to be relatively neutral with splashes of interest here and there. The intention being that it would appeal to a broad range of people. The carpet up the staircase was a bespoke design which, when combined with the large framed posters, created a striking stairwell. The large shelving unit in our client’s office used to sit in his home office and was no longer in use so it was taken apart, moved and reassembled in this office. The gloomy rooms in the basement were to be used as a gym and changing rooms. We brightened up the space by using splashes of bright green combined with mirrors running the length and height of the wall.
This was the third of three offices we designed for Nexus Creative Space. Our client wanted the three offices to flow in decor but without being copies of one another. We decided to keep with the wall and woodwork colours used in the previous two offices and make a statement with a bespoke carpet that would run up the entire, very attractive, staircase. We used a series of photographs taken by a friend of the owner to hang on the walls up the staircase. We also used more bespoke, brightly coloured wall lights in this area to provide continuity with the other offices. A tall arched wall detail between the first and second floors was highlighted by painting it the same striking turquoise as the carpet.
Our clients purchased a beautiful 4 bedroom property in Heriot Row that had been already been developed by developers. They approached us to decorate and furnish it in a style that reflected their love of colour, travel and sense of fun. It was a wonderful project to work on.
This beautiful and quirky apartment in an old mansion in the countryside outside Edinburgh was both a challenge and a joy to work on. A joy because our client had a clear vision of how she wanted her home to look and feel and we worked in happy collaboration to create the home of her dreams.
I established Lally Walford Interiors about 15 years ago, having worked in the interiors industry since early 2000. I grew up in an interior design environment – my mother has run a successful interior design business since before I can remember – and, having worked for a few years in London at an advertising agency, I decided to train properly in interior design and commit to what I suspected that I had always wanted to do. I have worked in London, Sydney and North Yorkshire and, following our move to Scotland in 2005, have established a wonderful, loyal and ever-increasing client base both here and further afield.
