The Business curriculum at Newark Academy is delivered by subject experts, aims to provide all learners with a deep and powerful knowledge base of the world of business, which includes key concepts such as Enterprise, Finance, Marketing, Human Resources, Business Ownership and Growth. The study of Business should also develop our students beyond the school with specialist knowledge to equip them with the life skills that they will need to ensure access to future opportunities within a work environment which is complemented by an Academy wide careers education programme that augments classroom study and provides wider work experience opportunities.

Our GCSE students study Edexcel GCSE Business Studies. This specification gives students the opportunity to explore real business issues and how businesses work. A relevant and diverse specification student will consider the practical application of business concepts. The units provide opportunities to explore theories and concepts in the most relevant way, through the context of events in the business and economic world.

In Year 11 students will look at how a business develops beyond the start-up phase. It focusses on the key business concepts issues and decisions used to grow a business, with emphasis on aspects of marketing, operations, finance and human resources.

The GCSE Business course is an introductory course to studying Business and is ideal for any student who; wants a good understanding of how businesses work, is intending to study any business subject in the future, wishes to understand how to make a success of their future career in business, who might be thinking of setting up their own business.

The aim of the Business Studies department is to equip students with the knowledge to enter the world of work, set up their own business or go on to study Business further at higher education. Students will learn problem solving techniques, decision making, and presentational skills that will benefit them in many areas of work.
