Eden Quispe explores the tension of traditional and contemporary values in midwestern culture through the experience of motherhood. She creates interior scenes using traditional quilting techniques, embroidery, printing, and collage using found textiles.
Her grandfather's ties, her daughter's dresses, and inherited fabric from her own family as well as fabric from her husband's Peruvian culture are painted and sewn upon and cut to become walls, tables, and chairs. These nostalgic items are sewn together and printed on to create patchwork paintings of the domestic objects that show heritage.
Her work reflects on loss and joy, sacrifice and fulfillment, order and chaos (though mostly chaos) that is related to her experiences as mother, artist, wife and teacher.
