5KM Run Against Domestic Violence

''BREAK THE SILENCE''

There has been a steady rise in the number of domestic violence cases reported to the Royal Malaysian Police. There were 5014 cases reported in 2015 and the number rose to 5796 cases in 2016. In UMMC Emergency Department, 36 cases were registered in 2015 and this number rose to 89 cases in 2016.

In view of this alarming trend, the UMMC Emergency Department is taking an initiative to raise awareness regarding Domestic Violence amongst members of the public. The department has selected 27 October 2018, to organize a 5KM run against Domestic Violence at Stadium UM Arena, University Malaya. This run with the theme to”Break the Silence” aims to stop: Domestic Violence” in our community and thus promote peace in our own families, homes and society. With cooperation from Amanita, Royal Malaysian Police, organizer hope, this event will bring meaningful in against domestic violence.


The objectives of the event is:

i. To raise awareness among the public on ”Domestic Violence ”.

ii. Providing information on how, when and where victim can seek help.

iii. Encourage, inspire and motivate people of all ages to improve their mental and physical health through exercise and participation in runs for a cause.
